Job Summary

The Histology Technician supports the Surgical Pathology laboratory by preparing and processing tissue specimens for microscopic examination. This role focuses on routine and small biopsy specimens while working under the supervision of a Pathology Assistant and laboratory leadership. The technician ensures accuracy, quality, and compliance with laboratory standards during overnight operations.

Shift Details

• Schedule: Night Shift

• Hours: 5 × 7.5-hour shifts

• Time: 23:00 – 07:00

• Days: Monday through Friday

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, process, and embed tissue specimens for histologic examination

• Perform microtomy on routine and small biopsy specimens

• Handle dermatology, renal, and other simple routine specimens under supervision

• Ensure proper fixation, processing, and staining techniques are followed

• Maintain specimen integrity and accurate labeling throughout workflow

• Adhere to laboratory safety, quality control, and regulatory standards

• Assist with routine laboratory maintenance and documentation

• Collaborate with Pathology Assistants and laboratory supervisors to support diagnostic accuracy

Required Qualifications

• Associate of Science degree and completion of an approved/accredited Histology program
  
  OR

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant laboratory experience

• Active state Clinical Laboratory Technologist license
  
  OR

• Certified Histology Technician (HT)
  
  OR

• Clinical Laboratory Technologist certification issued by the state education department

Experience Requirements

• 2–5 years of histology experience

• Hands-on experience with:

  • Small biopsy specimens

  • Dermatology specimens

  • Renal specimens

  • Routine surgical pathology specimens
