Development Manager, Corporate & Individual Philanthropy

Care For the Homeless
New York, NY

About the Position

Care For the Homeless (CFH) is seeking a dynamic, relationship-focused fundraiser to join our growing Development team and help expand our network of corporate partners, individual donors, and philanthropic supporters. The Development Manager will identify new funding opportunities, cultivate and strengthen relationships with corporate and individual supporters, and develop strategies to grow unrestricted revenue that advances CFH’s mission.

The Development Manager will also work closely with CFH leadership, committees and Board of Directors to identify, engage, and cultivate individual and corporate prospects with the potential to become long-term supporters of the organization and its work.

This position is well suited for a creative, motivated, and strategic fundraiser who understands that successful philanthropy is grounded in authentic relationships, thoughtful stewardship, and a strong understanding of each supporter’s interests and goals. The Development Manager will collaborate with colleagues to create compelling opportunities for companies and individuals to engage with Care For the Homeless and support its work serving New Yorkers experiencing homelessness.

A significant part of the role will involve corporate prospect outreach, networking, relationship development, solicitation, and personalized stewardship. The successful candidate will be comfortable opening doors with new prospects while also deepening relationships with existing supporters. This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level development professional who is eager to grow their career within a mission-driven organization making a direct impact in New York City communities.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement annual strategies to secure unrestricted corporate contributions, sponsorships, and individual philanthropic support.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of corporate partners and individual donors, with a focus on developing meaningful, long-term relationships.
  • Research, identify, and qualify prospective corporate and individual supporters whose interests and priorities align with CFH’s mission and programs.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and secure new unrestricted corporate gifts and sponsorships at a range of giving levels, including support for programs, events, and direct services.
  • Partner with CFH leadership on the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individual prospects, including opportunities for multi-year and increased philanthropic support.
  • Develop customized proposals, presentations, sponsorship opportunities, briefing materials, and other fundraising collateral for prospective and current supporters.
  • Lead meetings and donor conversations, communicating CFH’s mission, impact, funding priorities, and opportunities for partnership in a compelling and accessible manner.
  • Represent CFH at networking events, community gatherings, industry events, and other external engagements that create opportunities to build relationships and increase organizational visibility.
  • Maintain consistent, thoughtful communication with corporate and individual supporters and ensure donors understand the impact of their contributions.
  • Coordinate corporate and individual donor and prospect visits to CFH programs and sites, as appropriate.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned corporate relationships, conducting regular check-ins to understand partner priorities and identify opportunities for deeper engagement.
  • Develop and coordinate recognition and stewardship opportunities for corporate and individual supporters across communications, events, programs, and organizational materials.
  • Partner with colleagues across Development and other departments to create meaningful volunteer, employee engagement, event, and community involvement opportunities for corporate partners.
  • Collaborate with communications and stewardship colleagues to develop targeted engagement strategies and personalized communications for key supporters.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to structure corporate relationships that create meaningful value for both the partner and Care For the Homeless.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of prospect activity, solicitations, commitments, relationships, and stewardship within the organization’s donor database.
  • Monitor trends in corporate and individual philanthropy and identify emerging opportunities for partnership, donor engagement, and revenue growth.
  • Contribute to a collaborative Development team culture and support broader departmental fundraising initiatives as needed.
What You Bring

You are an energetic and resourceful fundraiser who enjoys building relationships, opening doors, and turning meaningful conversations into philanthropic partnerships. You are comfortable reaching out to new prospects while recognizing the importance of thoughtful cultivation and stewardship of existing supporters.

You can speak authentically and enthusiastically about the mission of Care For the Homeless while understanding the business priorities, philanthropic interests, and community engagement goals that influence corporate and individual giving. You are equally comfortable developing a prospect strategy, preparing a compelling proposal, making a solicitation, or meeting with an established donor to explore opportunities for deeper engagement.

The ideal candidate will also bring:
  • A minimum of five years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with demonstrated experience in corporate partnerships, individual giving, donor cultivation, or related areas of development.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate, and maintain strong relationships with donors, corporate partners, community leaders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience securing corporate sponsorships, philanthropic contributions, or strategic partnerships.
  • Experience with prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and independently move projects from concept through completion.
  • Understanding of the different avenues through which companies may provide philanthropic support, including corporate social responsibility initiatives, corporate foundations, employee engagement programs, executive giving, and marketing or sponsorship budgets.
  • Experience working with individual donors and prospects, including the ability to cultivate relationships toward significant and multi-year philanthropic support.
  • Confidence representing an organization externally and developing relationships with corporate and community leaders.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to work across departments to identify and pursue fundraising opportunities.
  • Creativity, initiative, sound judgment, and flexibility in responding to new opportunities and changing priorities.
  • A genuine commitment to the mission of Care For the Homeless and to expanding the resources and partnerships that improve the lives of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness.
