Ultrasound Technologist
Job Description
Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment in the application of non-ionizing, high frequency ultrasonic waves for diagnosis of disease.
Job Responsibility
1.Prepares patient for examination.
Explains procedure to patient, in easy-to-understand terms, to relieve any pre-testing anxiety.
Sets up equipment to administer ordered procedure.
Positions patient on exam table for optimal testing conditions and scan results.
2.Performs a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, as determined by specific needs of department including, but not limited to:
General (Abdominal, Pelvic, Small Parts/Breast)
Obstetrical
Vascular (Abdominal, Peripheral, Cerebrovascular)
Pediatric
Musculoskeletal
Assist with Ultrasound Guided Interventional Procedures
3.Obtains ordered views/images using approved techniques. Recognizes significance of all structures visualized and differentiates artifacts from normal or pathological processes
4.Obtains prior diagnostic and radiological exam reports, as needed, for Radiologist correlation with current imaging procedure being performed.
5.Consults with referring Physician regarding patient history and specific ultrasound procedure to be performed, as appropriate.
6.Performs direct observation of patient throughout imaging procedure. Recognizes changes in patient's condition, motor abnormality, and/or patient complaints and promptly reports to Physician.
7.Maintains logs and related records for all exams performed. Documents slice location and labels study on multi-format film. Keeps proper documentation of real-time studies on videotape.
8.Performs regular imaging equipment calibrations. Recognizes issues and performs minor equipment repairs. Promptly reports major equipment issues to management.
9.Maintains related inventory and orders supplies for assigned area. Reviews and stocks storage locations, film inventories and medical supplies.
10.Performs related duties, as required.
Job Qualification
Graduate of an approved Ultrasound or Echocardiography program, required.
Current Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), required.
Equivalent work experience documented by institutional referral with a minimum of 200 cases in echocardiography and the other modalities.
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, physics or diagnostic ultrasound and familiarity with pertinent medical/surgical disease, required.
Hospital experience, preferred.
General ultrasound experience, preferred. This is a general ultrasound per diem role; flexible schedule preferred.
