RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

The Henry Viscardi School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Principal to join our leadership team. Reporting directly to the Principal, the Assistant Principal will play a key role in supporting the Superintendent and Principal with all administrative and instructional functions. This position is instrumental in ensuring the smooth operation of daily school activities, enhancing instructional quality, supervising and managing the Related Services Department, and fostering a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment for students with complex physical, medical, and learning needs.

In collaboration with the Principal, the Assistant Principal will assist in managing essential daily operations and ensuring that high-quality, research-based instructional practices are implemented across classrooms and related service areas. The role includes providing oversight of related services, evaluating staff performance, monitoring Medicaid billing and documentation, and ensuring compliance with all student-related prescriptions and attendance reporting. The Assistant Principal will also support extracurricular programs, facilitate student testing and assessment processes, and promote positive student behavior by actively participating in the HVS Wellness Team.

Additional responsibilities include collaborating with the Superintendent and Principal to identify and coordinate professional development initiatives for staff, supporting technology integration and assistive technology programs, and maintaining compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, including Part 200 of the New York State Department of Education. The Assistant Principal will also lead and facilitate Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and ensure effective communication with all stakeholders to advance the mission of the Henry Viscardi School.

Qualifications & Education

The ideal candidate will hold a New York State School Building Leader Certification and have demonstrated experience in a special education setting, with prior administrative experience strongly preferred. The successful candidate will exhibit exceptional leadership, communication, and management skills; possess a strong understanding of special education practices; and demonstrate a commitment to supporting the success and well-being of students with complex needs.
