The Clinical Pharmacy Manager, Neonatal Critical Care is responsible for carrying out clinical pharmacy services, promoting clinically and evidence-based rational drug therapy, and sound pharmaceutical care through the development of new (or expansion of existing) pharmacy practice programs, drug therapy policies, and other programs. Serves as a clinical pharmacy resource for the health system and its affiliated pharmacy services. Responsible to serve as a preceptor for the residency program, and for students from local colleges of pharmacy. Conducts research and other scholarly activities throughout the year with the goal of publishing. Supervises and guides pharmacists on the optimal provision of care to ensure professional development, and through use of their independent judgment, directs and disciplines their employees. Other responsibilities include patient care rounds, clinical interventions, medication use evaluations and institutional committee membership.

Responsibilities
  • Manage high-risk transitions of care, ensuring smooth coordination and continuity of therapy for patients transitioning between care settings.
  • Participate in direct patient care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and throughout the hospital, providing comprehensive acute management of patients.
  • Provide clinical support and interdisciplinary education to multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Review medication profiles to assure optimal pharmacotherapy treatment plans and optimize medication therapies to prevent and reduce medication errors.
  • Provide counseling to patients and caregivers.
  • Contribute to the development of medication guidelines, order sets, protocols and optimization of Electronic Medical Record with a focus on neonatal care.
  • Represent the department in interdisciplinary committees.
  • Initiate and participate in quality improvement projects, recommending updates and modifications as necessary to enhance pharmacy services and patient care.
  • Support the pharmacy department's clinical research initiatives and serve as a preceptor and mentor for PGY1 pharmacy residents, PGY2 pharmacy residents, and pharmacy students from local Colleges of Pharmacy.
Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Active pharmacist license in New York with immunization privileges, or eligible for licensure.
  • Up to date ACLS certification. ? Completion of a PGY2 residency in Pediatrics or equivalent experience.
  • Board certification in Pediatric Pharmacy (BCPPS) preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and effectively prioritize tasks.

Experience Requirements

  • 3 years hospital experience or equivalent, with clinical experience/training
  • Experience with coordinating the handling of investigational drugs preferred
  • Strong written, verbal communication, organizational, analytic, clinical and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough understanding of all laws, regulations and standards relating to investigational drugs (for example, good clinical practice (ICH-GCP), Human Subjects Protocol, etc)
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of general hospital operations.
  • Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, word processing, and databases
  • Experience with electronic medical records systems
  • Ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action

Licensing and Certification Requirements

  • Name: Registered Pharmacist. Issuing Agency: NYS Board of Pharmacy
  • Continues to meet regulatory, educational, and licensure requirements throughout employment, as set forth by New York State regulations.
  • Achieves annual requirement of 15 continuing education hours (ACPE approved).

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $159000 - $190565 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
