Pediatric Field RN

HOURS: M-F Days but later hours possible 3pm-9pm and one or two Sat per month

SUMMARY:
providing in-home nursing care to children with developmental disabilities, coordinated care and family education

DUTIES:
Deliver skilled, age-appropriate nursing care to pediatric patients in their home environments.

Perform comprehensive health assessments and ongoing monitoring of children with developmental disabilities.

Administer prescribed medications, tube feedings, and treatments while closely observing for adverse reactions.

Monitor and manage chronic conditions such as seizure disorders, cerebral palsy, or genetic syndromes.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (therapists, educators, care coordinators) to develop and implement individualized care plans.

Educate families and caregivers on care routines, equipment use (e.g., G-tubes, suction, pulse oximeters), and safety protocols.

Participate in care conferences and update service plans as the child’s needs evolve.

Provide emotional support, guidance, and practical training to families coping with complex care needs.

Offer respite and relief care for caregivers while ensuring continuity and quality of care for the child.

Foster a therapeutic and supportive environment in the home.

Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in accordance with OPWDD, DOH, and Americare standards.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, infection control protocols, and Americare policies.

Participate in audits, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.

Educate families about developmental milestones, health promotion, and early intervention strategies.

Advocate for children’s access to appropriate services and resources.

Serve as a liaison between families, school personnel, and healthcare providers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

RN, Peds exp. with complex medical histories or OPWDD, Car, DL required for some areas. consider new grad with Relevant LPN exp.

QUALIFICATION:
Valid New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing

Pediatric nursing experience (preferably in home care, developmental disabilities, or special needs populations)

Current BLS certification (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers)

Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills

Familiarity with OPWDD services and care for children with developmental disabilities (preferred)

Experience with medical equipment commonly used in home care (e.g., G-tubes, trachs, suction machines, ventilators)

Ability to work independently in a home setting while maintaining clinical and professional standards

Compassionate, patient, and family-centered approach to care

Bilingual ability is a plus (especially Spanish, Russian, or Mandarin)
