Staff Software Engineer

Our client, an AI-driven SaaS startup, is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join their team in New York. The successful candidate will tackle complex technical challenges in a true greenfield environment, playing a key role in shaping the company’s foundational infrastructure from day one, including ownership over architecture, tooling and their long-term technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement full-stack features for their AI-driven SaaS platform.

• Design and build core backend systems, data models, APIs and infrastructure focused on scalability, performance and maintainability.

• Translate business and product objectives into clear technical strategies, making impactful design decisions in ambiguous or evolving contexts.

• Develop intuitive frontend experiences that present complex AI and contract insights in clear, actionable ways.

• Partner closely with the Head of Engineering and product teams to define priorities and deliver exceptional outcomes.

• Take full ownership of projects, from initial design and development through deployment, monitoring and iteration.

• Champion engineering best practices and contribute to shaping a strong, collaborative technical culture as the team grows.

Skillset

• At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record in system architecture and technical ownership.

• Demonstrated ability to design and build complex backend systems or distributed services, ideally in greenfield environments.

• Proficient in Node.js, Go or Python, and experienced with modern frontend frameworks such as React or TypeScript.

• Skilled in cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices.

• Strong system design expertise with the ability to evaluate trade-offs and architect scalable distributed systems.

• Hands-on experience developing agentic AI systems or LLM-powered applications is a bonus.

• Background in legal tech or B2B SaaS is a plus.

• Exceptional communication skills with ability to clearly articulate and defend architectural choices.
