System Data Engineer

Position Summary:

Bryant & Stratton College is seeking a motivated and reliable Data Engineer to serve as a steward and technical lead of a mission-critical data warehouse that primarily supports analytical and research functions across the College. This role is ideal for a career focused candidate who demonstrates strong ownership, integrity, and a desire to continuously improve data systems through thoughtful use of automation, low-code tools, and light programming.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 


  • Work in concert with the College’s Institutional Research and Analytics Team to ensure the reliability, accuracy, and long-term sustainability of the Data Warehouse.

  • Provide primary support for the data management needs of the College by:


  1. Working with existing datasets and data models

  2. Developing and maintaining new data feeds and integrations

  3. Improving data availability and usability for reporting and analysis

  4. Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using a combination of low-code tools and scripting/programming where appropriate

  5. Use programming and automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell, SQL) to reduce manual processes, improve data quality, and enable repeatable workflows

  6. Collaborate closely with analysts, researchers, and business stakeholders to understand evolving data needs and translate them into practical data solutions

  7. Monitor both database systems and data health, investigate anomalies, and proactively resolve issues before they impact downstream users

  8. Create and maintain clear documentation and diagrams to support transparency, continuity, and knowledge sharing

  9. Identify opportunities to incrementally modernize the data platform while avoiding unnecessary complexity

  10. Other tasks as assigned by your manager

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or certification in Azure Data platforms.

  • 2+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data architecture, or a related domain.

  • Experience with SQL and relational databases.

  • Understanding of basic data warehousing concepts.

  • Demonstrated sense of ownership and stewardship over systems and outcomes.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technical platforms and concepts independently and apply them pragmatically.

  • Experience with data integration tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Fabric).

  • Highly coachable and receptive to feedback, with the ability to rapidly incorporate new concepts and continuously improve performance.

  • Comfort leveraging modern tools, including AI-assisted workflows, to accelerate learning, improve documentation, and increase efficiency while exercising sound judgment and data responsibility.

  • Comfort using basic programming or scripting to automate tasks and solve problems.

  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail, especially regarding data accuracy and consistency.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Exposure to Python, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred).

  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence platforms such as Qlik or PowerBIExperience supporting analytics, research, or reporting teams.

  • Interest in data security, auditability, and responsible data stewardship.

Physical Demands and Work Environment :


  • Position requires standing or sitting in a stationary position as well as the occasional need to lift, carry, push, and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Position also requires the use of computer technology/equipment.

  • Position requires the ability to receive information in person and over the telephone.

  • Position requires the ability to convey detailed and important instructions or ideas accurately.

  • Travel may be required.

Salary Range:

$75,000 to $85,000 per year

Please note that the compensation information is a good faith estimate of the base pay for this position. The selected candidate’s actual base pay for this role will take into account a wide range of non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. At Bryant & Stratton College, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
