Description
The Department of Drama and Dance at Hofstra University invites applications for two (2) full-time, tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor of Dance to begin work on September 1, 2026. The successful candidates will join our nationally recognized Dance Program and will contribute to our mission of training the next generation of dynamic and diverse dance artists, educators and multi-disciplinary scholars.
Interested applicants for these positions should have at least three years’ experience in teaching dance courses in higher education, a passion for inclusive pedagogy, and a clear and focused creative agenda. Responsibilities will include teaching a range of courses for undergraduates, which could include modern technique, ballet and pointe classes, jazz dance technique (including the history and development of jazz dance as well as current trends), and the ability to teach in other areas such as Choreography, Somatics, Contemporary partnering, Dance and Film, Dance and Technology, etc.
These faculty members will contribute to the success and functioning of our program in ways such as mentoring students, directing dance concerts, curating repertory, choreographing for performances, and leading recruitment efforts both on and off campus. We seek highly engaged dance professionals who will enrich our collaborative, diverse, and interdisciplinary community and who will be committed to continuing their creative practice to bring innovative industry knowledge into the classroom. Ongoing professional activity is expected to advance the University’s reputation and represent the quality of our faculty and programs on national and global platforms.

Qualifications
- MFA or PhD in Dance or the equivalent in professional experience
- Minimum three years university-level teaching, experience in student mentorship,

Salary/Salary Range
$85,000-$90,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.
