Laboratory Manager- Reck-Peterson Lab

Dr. Samara Reck-Peterson at Weil Cornell Medicine in New York, NY is seeking a Laboratory Manager to support her lab. The Reck-Peterson Lab at Weill Cornell Medicine studies the mechanisms of intracellular transport at molecular, cellular, and organismal scales. Our research addresses fundamental questions in cell biology with direct relevance to human health and disease. Current projects include:

• Understanding how defects in intracellular transport contribute to neurodegenerative disease, with a focus on LRRK2 in Parkinson’s disease.

• Investigating mechanisms of organelle “hitchhiking” in filamentous fungi and their implications for secondary metabolite production.

We use a wide range of approaches: protein biochemistry and reconstitution, single-molecule biophysics, proteomics, metabolomics, fungal genetics, evolutionary analysis, mammalian cell culture, and live-cell imaging. What you’ll do:

• Support collaborative research projects (approximately 75% effort).

• Manage lab operations, including safety, maintenance, and purchasing/ordering (approximately 20% effort).

• Train graduate students, postdocs, and staff on standard lab methods (approximately 5% effort).

• Contribute to collaborative research projects across the lab.

• Perform standard molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR, DNA/RNA isolation).

• Troubleshoot and optimize experimental protocols.

• Support protein expression and purification workflows.

• Contribute to microscopy-based studies, including confocal and single-molecule imaging.

• Maintain accurate records, inventories, and compliance documentation.

What you bring:

• BA/BS or MS in biological, biomedical, or biochemical sciences.

• At least 5 years of post-graduation research experience.

• Strong publication record and broad expertise in cell/molecular biology.

• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

• Background in cytoskeleton biology, intracellular trafficking, and signaling.

• Hands-on experience in fungal biology (genetics, culture, engineering) and/or mammalian cell culture.

• Experience with secondary metabolism (metabolite isolation/analysis).

• Live-cell imaging (confocal microscopy; advanced optical techniques).

• Bioinformatics exposure (proteomics, RNA-seq, phylogenetics).

• Biochemical purification, including FPLC and SEC-MALS.

• Mammalian and insect cell culture and transfection.

• CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing.

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet). Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances.
