Editorial assistant
Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join the William Morrow team! The Editorial Assistant will provide administrative and editorial support to an SVP, Executive Editor, and Director of Editorial Development who publishes a broad range of fiction – including thriller, suspense, horror, historical, literary, and “reading group” – as well as the occasional nonfiction project.
This role is based in New York City and will require the candidate’s presence in the office three to four days a week.
Responsibilities
- Performs, under minimal supervision, administrative and editorial duties, including corresponding (via email and telephone) with authors and agents, utilizing HarperCollins's content management systems, and facilitating mailings.
- Aids in the acquisitions process by reading and evaluating submissions, researching author track records and comparison titles, preparing reader’s reports on key submissions, tracking and ensuring timely response to submissions.
- Acts as a liaison between manager and Sales, Marketing, Production, Design, and Managing Editorial departments to facilitate the publication process from acquisition through publication. Responsible for tracking and meeting deadlines throughout the publication process to keep books on schedule.
- Prepares forms, including acquisition profit and loss statements, deal memos, production memos, production/manufacturing estimate requests, and payment requests.
- Formats and transmits final manuscripts to Production Department.
Qualifications
- Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience
- Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and organizational skills required
- Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
- Strong work ethic and ability to handle and prioritize a large volume of tasks independently
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of management
- Excellent communication skills
- Exceptional writing skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office

The salary for this position is $50,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
