Work Location: 151 Lawrence Street, Brooklyn, NY
Hours: Full-Time - 35 hours per week
Salary Range: $65,000 - $70,000

About the Role:
The Communications Specialist is a strategic role on the Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) Advancement Team. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Communications, the Communications Specialist creates internal and external communications, marketing, and social media content to support BCS’s programs, staff, and services.
Responsibilities:
Oversee and Optimize BCS’s External and Internal Newsletters: Own the editorial direction and production of both the monthly internal newsletter and the quarterly external newsletter, collaborating with Program Directors, Human Resources, and other Administrative teams to produce engaging content that embodies BCS’s mission and culture.
Develop and Coordinate Internal and External Messaging: Draft and coordinate messaging for internal and external announcements, campaigns, initiatives, and events, ensuring timely and effective communication.
Collaborate for Content Integration: Work closely with the Deputy Director of Communications, Senior Marketing Manager, and Deputy Director of Advancement to identify stories and content that may be shared internally and externally, maintaining a cohesive narrative across all channels. Contribute to the BCS website, blog, and other digital content platforms.
Facilitate Content Collection and Storytelling: Conduct site visits when necessary to program locations across Brooklyn to capture photos, collect stories, and engage with program staff to gather insights for storytelling.
Support Cross-Functional Teams: Provide communications and branding support to Human Resources-led initiatives, such as the Wellness Committee and DEI Committee, promoting a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Manage Projects and Communication Tools: Lead administrative support for the Advancement Team, including scheduling email communications, organizing media assets, and project management. Ensure deadlines are met and messaging is consistent across channels.
Key Performance Indicators: Track KPIs across social media channels and Emma communication system to inform strategies and decision-making and build engagement across communication platforms
Support BCS External Events: Create and draft copy for invitations, and any marketing needs
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree.
at least 2 years of communications experience, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
Strong project management and strategic planning skills, with demonstrated ability to execute complex projects and initiatives.
Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including expertise in storytelling, presentation, and tailoring messaging to diverse audiences.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva is preferred.
Experience with email marketing tools and social media.
Ability to interpret data reports and metrics to inform and optimize communication strategies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
An understanding of how to take a compelling photo is a must, but an advanced knowledge of photography is not required.
Experience with WordPress or another website CMS is preferred, but not required
