Job Summary

Themba Tutors is seeking an experienced learning specialist / special educator–equivalent professional for in-person, part-time work.

This role is for professionals who work confidently with middle school and/or high school students . We are not hiring for elementary (K–5) support .

Candidates must have graduate-level training and experience supporting students with learning differences, executive-function challenges, or neurodivergent profiles—particularly at the secondary level .

You must be able to travel to Manhattan and/or Brooklyn and have weekday afternoon availability after 4:00 PM at least three days per week .

Non-Negotiable Education Requirement (Please Read Carefully)

• Bachelor’s degree–only candidates will not be considered
• Candidates must hold a master’s degree in a related field, including:
• Special Education
• Psychology or School Psychology
• Social Work (LMSW / LCSW)
• Counseling
• Learning Disabilities / Educational Therapy
• Closely related clinical or educational fields

Required Experience

• Direct experience working with middle school and/or high school students
• Experience supporting students with:
• ADHD
• Executive-function challenges
• Dyslexia or learning differences

Note: We are not seeking K–5 specialists at this time.Strong Preference / Major Bonus

• Ability to tutor or support math and/or science at the middle or high school level, including:
• Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry
• Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics
• Biology, Chemistry, Physics

Candidates with strong secondary math or science experience will be prioritized.

• Provide individualized, one-on-one academic and/or executive-function support
• Support organization, planning, task initiation, and study strategies
• Implement evidence-informed strategies aligned to student needs
• Communicate clearly and professionally with families and internal staff
• Maintain consistency, reliability, and scheduling commitments
