Legal Counsel - Specialty Lines Insurer

With over $2 billion in gross premiums written annually, this is a business with true scale and a diversified product portfolio-25% of which is driven by its high-performing Financial Lines division.
The Opportunity
This is an outstanding opportunity for a Legal Counsel with 2 to 5 years' post-qualified experience to step into a broad, high-impact role within a sophisticated legal function. Reporting into senior legal leadership and working closely with executive stakeholders, you'll act as a trusted legal advisor, delivering sharp commercial and regulatory legal advice in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal support across corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters
- Advise on insurance regulatory compliance, licensing, filings, and internal governance
- Draft, negotiate, and review a wide range of commercial agreements
- Collaborate with underwriting, compliance, claims, and product development teams
- Partner with leadership to support strategic initiatives, product launches, and growth plans
About You
- 2-5 years of post-qualification legal experience, ideally from a law firm or in-house (insurance is a must)
- Strong grounding in corporate, commercial, or regulatory law
- A commercially minded communicator who thrives in a collaborative environment
- A proactive mindset with the confidence to engage with senior leaders and influence decision-making
- Willingness to work from the NYC office 3 days per week
