The Backend Engineer will play a key role in building and scaling systems that process, structure, and understand massive volumes of product data. This includes working with large-scale AI models, multimodal systems, and distributed infrastructure to enable fast, accurate, and intelligent product discovery.

This is a highly technical, fast-paced role suited for engineers who enjoy solving complex data, search, and systems challenges at scale while contributing to a rapidly growing AI startup.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop systems to analyze and structure data from over a billion products across the internet
• Work with language models, embeddings, image recognition, and segmentation models to understand product data
• Build systems for product deduplication, classification, and variant detection (e.g., size, color, configurations)
• Design and improve computer vision pipelines to interpret product detail pages (PDPs) without manual intervention
• Build and optimize high-performance search systems capable of handling complex queries in real time
• Enhance ranking and relevance systems beyond basic keyword matching using structured and semantic data
• Improve system reliability, reduce cost, and optimize token usage across AI pipelines
• Design evaluation frameworks to monitor model drift and ensure consistent system performance
• Work with large-scale cloud infrastructure across platforms such as GCP and Azure
• Contribute to the design of scalable databases and product graph infrastructure
• Collaborate with a highly technical engineering team to ship features quickly and efficiently

Required Qualifications:

• Strong background in software engineering (experience level not strictly defined, but senior-level thinking preferred)
• Proficiency in backend development and system design
• Experience working with large-scale data systems or distributed architectures
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts such as embeddings, language models, or computer vision (preferred)
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with complex technical challenges
• Ability to work independently in a fast-moving startup environment
• Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with AI infrastructure, search systems, or recommendation engines
• Familiarity with multimodal AI systems (text + image processing)
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as GCP or Azure
• Knowledge of cost optimization and large-scale system efficiency
• Interest in e-commerce, product data systems, or AI-native applications
