About the position:

We are seeking a dynamic, commercially minded senior leader to serve as Head of Sector‑Based and Specialized Lending (SSL) — an impactful leadership role in the ING Americas Lending organization.

This is a front‑office, origination and execution driven leadership role at the center of ING’s largest product, leading a high‑performing team of more than 30 lending professionals across all levels (Analyst through Director). The Head of SSL will provide senior lending expertise and leadership in structuring, execution, and market dialogue, reinforcing ING’s position with the client as a trusted and sophisticated lending partner. The SSL team partners daily with sector leads, client relationship managers, and product specialists to originate, structure, and execute new lending transactions.

You will shape the commercial direction of the SSL franchise, drive high‑quality deal execution, elevate talent, and partner closely with the Head of Sectors and Wholesale Banking leadership to position ING as a preferred lender across priority industries. The position reports directly into the Head of Lending, Americas and sits on the America Lending Management Team.

About the team:

Lending is at the heart of ING’s global Wholesale Banking franchise. It is our largest product, central to client relationships, sector coverage, sustainability impact, and revenue generation. Leading in Lending means influencing strategy, shaping origination, and driving outcomes that materially impact ING’s performance in the Americas and globally.

Responsibilities:

  • The SSL Team will work closely with the Sector client relationship managers on the origination and deal structuring of Lending Transactions including:
    • Enable Relationship Managers to position ING to deliver best-in-class client outcomes through deep product expertise and execution leadership.
    • Preparation of marketing materials and lending analytics for clients in the Americas region.
    • Due diligence and analytics.
    • Term sheet negotiations and forming a club or syndicate.
    • Greenlight memo, presentation and discussion with Risk Management.
    • Analysis of different transaction structures and providing recommendations.
    • Business comparables and analysis of debt structures, performance metrics and debt pricing.
  • The SSL Team will be involved with new lending transactions and will take primary responsibility for some of the key processes including:
    • Prepare the credit approval packages including annexes and all requisite attachments.
    • Prepare financial models with sensitivity analysis and validation of key assumptions.
    • Run internal models and interface with risk management to establish the appropriate internal risk rating.
    • Interface with loan operations, treasury and the lending center of excellence to verify limit availability and compliance with internal policies.
    • Review legal documentation and validate key terms & conditions.
    • Responsible for dealing with closing including final CPs and obtaining the final loan documents.
  • Interface with the head of Sectors, or their delegate, to optimize staffing of new lending opportunities and marketing activities.
  • Directly manage and develop a large, diverse team of lending professionals from junior analysts to senior team leads.
  • Provide coaching, career development, succession planning, and high‑performance leadership.
  • Ensure strong engagement, talent progression, and a high‑quality team culture.
  • Lead process improvements, lending transformation efforts, and digital adoption
  • Stay up to date on organizational operating policies and procedures (i.e. Risk, Legal, etc.) to ensure appropriate protocols are implemented and followed, and facilitate accordingly.
  • Coordinate and track activities, deliverables and accomplishments across multiple initiatives / projects.
  • Identify productivity trends across the Front Office organization and use insights from reporting to create and drive efficient processes and improve productivity.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • BA/BS in finance/economics/accounting/management/engineering (or similar); CFA and/or MBA a plus.
  • 10+ years of relevant lending experience with demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Series 7, 24, and 63 required, or commitment to obtain within 6 months of joining.
  • Expertise in corporate and project finance loan origination and execution.
  • Excellent credit skills and deep understanding of loan and debt capital markets.
  • Strong leadership and talent development skills.
  • Highly collaborative and able to work effectively across functions and regions.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities.
  • Committed and dedicated individual who will continuously improve the way the team works.

Salary Range: $315,000-$385,000
