Job Title: Patient Care Associate – Contract

Location: New York, NY

Duration: 9 weeks

Shift: Night Shift (11:00 PM – 7:15 AM)

Schedule: 5 days per week (Every other weekend required)

Hours per Week: 37.5

Job Description

As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Patient Care Associate is responsible for supporting patient care activities and ensuring a patient-focused environment within the assigned unit. The PCA works closely with the registered nurse to assist patients with activities of daily living, perform clinical procedures, and maintain a safe, clean, and supportive care environment.

Responsibilities

• Record patients’ vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respirations.

• Document intake and output, and assist with pain scale assessments.

• Perform procedures such as specimen collection, venipuncture, EKG, application of compression devices, and post-mortem care.

• Assist patients with feeding, bathing, mobility, toileting, and orientation to the clinical environment.

• Support dietary functions, including tray delivery, menu assistance, and documentation of intake variations.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.

• Perform one-to-one or close patient observations as directed.

• Follow isolation and infection control procedures as instructed.

• Conduct purposeful rounding focused on comfort, positioning, and safety.

• Respond promptly to call systems and patient requests.

• Transport patients and specimens as required.

• Support discharge and admission processes by updating records and preparing rooms.

• Maintain adequate supplies and report equipment issues.

• Collaborate effectively with team members and promote a culturally sensitive environment.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of recent hospital experience required.

• Experience in Med-Surg, Telemetry, and Critical Care units preferred.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to set priorities, problem solve, and work in a fast-paced environment.

• Must be physically capable of assisting with patient mobility and care tasks.

Education & Certifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (American Heart Association)

  • EKG

  • Phlebotomy

Additional Details

• Floating required to Med-Surg, Telemetry, and Critical Care units.

• Night shift (11 PM – 7:15 AM) schedule with every other weekend rotation.

• Must be reliable, compassionate, and team-oriented.
