Job Summary

The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse 1, NS24 SICU (Nights).

Responsibilities

• Prepare or assist with preparation of nursing care plans consistent with individuals’ comprehensive treatment plans.
• Carry out treatment procedures, administer medications, and monitor individuals’ conditions.
• Record notes and maintain medical records and nursing care plans, including medications and treatments, reactions, intake and output, and vital signs.
• Participate in development, implementation, and revision of individual care plans as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Modify nursing care plans based on individual condition and responses.
• Triage individuals by inquiring about illnesses, injuries, and symptoms, and record findings and observations.
• Assess findings, refer individuals directly to a physician in emergency cases or initiate appropriate remedial action; assist physicians with treatment functions.
• Provide education and counseling to individuals and families regarding health, medications, procedures, and treatment goals.
• Practice and ensure compliance with established infection control policies and procedures.
• Train paraprofessional staff by demonstrating nursing techniques and providing instructions on use of nursing equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
• 1 year of relevant clinical experience.

Work Schedule

Variable Days; 7:30pm to 8:00am (Full‑Time Nights)

Salary Grade

SG-18

Salary Range

• $101,264 to $122,056 based on years of experience and education (includes Location Pay & Geographic Differential) plus shift and/or inconvenience pay of $575 to $5,375, if applicable.
