Join Our Team at BKLYN Larder!
We’re a team of food lovers, excited to connect with customers, serve Brooklyn's best sandwiches, create magnificent cheese boards, and champion small batch specialty food makers in a retail environment. This is an opportunity to be part of a growing business with room to learn, develop, and make an impact!
We’re looking for passionate and outgoing Front-of-House Associates who are excited to connect with customers, share their love of food, and contribute to an energetic and dynamic retail environment.
What You’ll Do:
As a Front of House Associate, you are the face of BKLYN Larder. Whether you’re helping a regular customer discover a new favorite cheese or setting up a gorgeous food display, you’ll play a key role in shaping the customer experience.
You’ll engage with a diverse range of customers—from neighborhood locals to weekend foodies and even the occasional celebrity—offering thoughtful recommendations, genuine hospitality, and top-tier service. We want our guests to feel like they’re stepping into the home of a trusted food expert, not just shopping in a store.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking enthusiastic food lovers who thrive in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment. The ideal candidate is:
- A natural people person – Warm, friendly, and able to build lasting relationships with customers, purveyors, and team members.
- Passionate about food – Especially cheese! You’re eager to learn about artisanal products, pairing suggestions, and food trends.
- An engaging storyteller – You don’t just sell cheese; you share its history, flavor, and perfect pairing.
- A multitasker who thrives under pressure – You can juggle multiple customers, prepare orders, and keep the shop running smoothly.
- Detail-oriented and proactive – whether it’s ensuring the perfect cut of cheese or keeping the store organized, you take pride in your work.
- Experienced in food retail or hospitality – you have past experience working in food service, retail, or a similar customer-facing role.
- Comfortable with knives and food styling – You enjoy preparing and presenting food beautifully.
- Tech-savvy and organized – You can navigate a POS system, process online orders, and handle basic math with ease.
- Flexible and dependable – Available to work weekends, evenings, and peak holiday seasons when food lovers come out in full force.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Experience & Sales- Create a welcoming, engaging, and memorable experience for every customer.
- Provide expert guidance on cheeses, meats, and specialty provisions—offering samples and pairing suggestions.
- Take customer orders for sandwiches, prepared foods, and catering with care and accuracy.
- Resolve customer inquiries, order issues, and special requests with professionalism.
Cheese & Specialty Food Handling
- Cut, wrap, and label cheeses and cured meats with precision.
- Maintain the quality and integrity of all cheeses by following proper storage and rotation practices.
- Educate customers on cheese origins, flavors, and ideal pairings.
- Ensure visually appealing and well-stocked cheese and provisions displays.
Food & Merchandising Presentation
- Set up and maintain beautiful and enticing displays of prepared foods, pastries, and specialty items.
- Ensure all food is stocked, labeled, and presented at the highest standards.
- Rotate inventory and inspect for freshness, following food safety best practices.
- Assist in creating seasonal and promotional product displays.
Operations & Register Management
- Operate the POS system for sales, refunds, and exchanges.
- Process online and phone orders efficiently, ensuring accurate fulfillment.
- Receive and stock new deliveries, ensuring proper labeling and organization.
- Maintain accurate pricing and signage for all products.
- Follow cash-handling procedures and ensure register accuracy.
Store Cleanliness & Food Safety
- Maintain a spotless and well-organized store at all times.
- Follow strict food safety and sanitation protocols.
- Regularly clean and sanitize surfaces, equipment, and storage areas.
- Assist with daily and weekly deep-cleaning tasks.
Team Collaboration & Growth
- Work closely with fellow team members to keep operations smooth and efficient.
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen and management about stock levels, customer feedback, and special orders.
- Help host in-store tastings and events to engage with customers and build community.
- Continue learning and developing your knowledge of cheese, food trends, and retail skills.
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the business.
Why Work at BKLYN Larder?
- Be part of a passionate food-loving team in one of Brooklyn’s best gourmet shops.
- Learn from cheese and food experts—expand your knowledge of artisanal provisions.
- Opportunities to grow with a dynamic, expanding business.
- Interact with an amazing community of customers who love food as much as you do.
- Competitive pay, a fun work environment, and delicious perks!
