Respiratory Therapist Job Details

• Employment Type: Locum tenens (Travel contract)
• Location: Plattsburgh, NY 12901
• Setting: Hospital – Respiratory Care Unit
• Start Date: October 6, 2025
• End Date: May 18, 2026
• Contract Duration: 32 weeks
• Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (19:00 – 07:30)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2160–$2210
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required; flexibility to work as needed
• Holiday Coverage: Must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Day/Eve)

Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent respiratory therapy experience (no first-time travelers)
• Active New York Respiratory Therapist license or proof of application (NY licensing takes 6-8 weeks)
• NRP certification required, or experience/exposure to neonatal/pediatric population
• EPIC charting experience within the past 2 years (required)
• Certifications: ACLS, NRP, PALS, RRT
• COVID-19 vaccine required (no exemptions)
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)
• Reliable personal or rental vehicle required (public transportation not accessible)
• Vehicles should be equipped with all-season or snow tires November–April

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Deliver respiratory care to neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Float between nursery, emergency room, and other hospital units as needed
• Perform ABG interpretation, aerosol therapy, intubation assistance, bubble CPAP application, and mechanical ventilation management
• Operate specialized respiratory equipment (Puritan Bennett 980, V60, Max Venturi, F&P Hi Flow, LTV, Bubble CPAP, OLE-Volara)
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response)
• Document patient care using EPIC EMR
• Support high-risk deliveries and provide care in critical situations
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies and travel documentation requirements
