Prep Cook

Job Purpose:

The Prep Cook is a part of an exceptional culinary team that will provide an extensive food service for the restaurant and across the hotel.

You contribute in the execution of all daily culinary operations while communicating with other chefs and components in the culinary department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Following recipes to create the prepared foods for line cooks to use during service.
• Following recipes exactly, measuring to the gram with an accurate scale.
• Following recipes exactly, paying attention to the method and ingredients. Asking for help if a method or ingredient is not understood.
• Make sure operational requirements are met for dish & menu specifications.
• Ensure compliance with Food & Health safety requirements.
• Ensure cooking equipment is properly operated and maintained and any faults or malfunctions reported to a manager.
• Ability to walk, stand and/or bend continuously to perform essential job functions.
• Ability to work under pressure and deal with a fast paced environment.
• Other duties assigned by Manager.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

• At least 1 year of experience in the kitchen of a high volume, upscale NYC restaurant or hotel food and beverage operation.
• A desire to learn, positive attitude and an ability to work on a team.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Flexible hours are required, including holidays, weekends and supervisory coverage when needed.
• Understanding of the English language, speak, read and write.
• Proficient knifes skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 lb. without assistance.
• Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
• Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift.
• Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
• Remain in stationary position for extended periods of time.
