Postdoctoral Fellow in Organic Chemistry
Employer: Mount Sinai School of Medicine
Research lab: Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Institute
PI: Dr. Bram Teunissen
Location: New York City, NY, USA
Background:
Our lab strives to advance precision medicine through chemical engineering. We leverage synthetic chemistry to develop innovative nanotherapeutics and nuclear imaging probes, and employ these to study organ transplant rejection, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. In addition to extensive chemistry equipment (dedicated radiochemistry facility, NMR, HPLC, MS, IR, flash chromatography system, etc.) we have access to state-of-the-art flow cytometry, sequencing, and microscopy equipment as well as a large vivarium that enables extensive studies in both small and large animal models. Furthermore, our cutting-edge imaging facilities (including PET, MR, and CT modalities) allow clinically highly relevant readouts. Our dynamic team closely collaborates with bioengineers, imaging experts, and immunologists to produce cutting-edge research. We also formally collaborate with investigators at Radboud University Medical Center in the Netherlands, New York University, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Develop and employ novel small molecule drugs and nanotherapeutics for immunotherapy.
- Perform radiosyntheses to develop novel immuno-PET imaging probes.
- Analyze these compounds by a wide variety of analytical techniques.
- Share your results through scientific publications and oral presentations.
- Be part of a highly motivated multidisciplinary team consisting of chemists, immunologists, medical doctors and in vivo imaging specialists.
Requirements:
- A Ph.D. in organic chemistry or a comparable discipline.
- Profound experience in common analytical techniques (HPLC, NMR, DLS, TEM, UV-Vis).
- Excellent communication and writing skills in the English language.
- You are a team player and excited to collaborate with others.
