Independent Living, Inc., a progressive and dynamic cross-discapability services organization and a leader in the provision of peer services in the Hudson Valley region is seeking to hire a Direct Support Professional/Driver Day Habilitation in Newburgh.


The Direct Support Professional/Driver Day Habilitation will be responsible for safely transporting participants from their homes to the agency in the morning and back home in the afternoon as well as to various community programs during the day. The Direct Support Professional/Driver Day Habilitation will also work with participants on their valued goals and accomplish various activities. Spanish speaking is a plus. Must have a valid unrestricted driver's license. A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

»Responsible for the safe transportation of participants (including those who utilize wheelchairs and/or other mobility devices) from their homes to the agency in the morning and back home in the afternoon routes as well as transporting to the various community programs during the day.

»Works with participants on their valued results (goals) as outlined in the individual's day habilitation plan.

»Ensures that participants work on stated goals as they participate in various community activities.

»Mediates in a diplomatic manner any issues and problems that may come up during everyday activities.

»Ensures that participants have every opportunity to participate in chosen activities to the extent they are able and that the activity is adapted or modified to meet the needs of the individual.

»Works with participants in accomplishing various Activities of everyday Living (ADL's) as outlined in the individual's day habilitation plan.

»Provides input to the Employment & Family Services Director and Program Coordinator for goals to be included in the participant's day habilitation plans.

»Assists participants as needed with the various tasks related to eating lunch.

»Assists participants with Activities of everyday Living (ADL's), including toileting, as needed.

»Demonstrates sensitivity to the personal needs of individuals in the program and their families and responds appropriately.

»Completes everyday and monthly paperwork in a timely manner as required by program regulations set forth by the HVDDSO and OPWDD.

»Monitors, as needed, program participants while they are in transit to and from the Independent Living Center and/or activities in the community.

Requirements

»High school diploma or equivalent; college degree in human services or the equivalent preferred.

» practice working with people with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.

»Spanish speaking a plus.

»Valid, NYS Driver License with clean driving record.

»Strong communication expertise; both written and oral.

» expertise of available community resources.

»First Aid and CPR certification, preferred.

»Must be dependable, flexible and positive in approach, organized and hard working.
