About this opportunity... In the heart of the NY fashion district LA and Boston, our Buying Offices sit at the heart of our business. Our expert merchandising team sources top brands and trends globally, delivering unbeatable value to our customers. This area of our business is ideal for candidates who love the thrill of a great deal and are driven to grow their careers. The Buyer position is a leadership role with direct fiscal accountability for a product category. Responsibilities include managing business financials, inventory, and product flow, and negotiating in the market while developing deep and meaningful vendor relationships. This role will be integral in developing Assistant Buyers on the team and helping grow the future talent in the company. The base salary range for this role is $105,000 - $170,000. The base salary range is dependent on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards vary by position and location. What you will do and what you will learn...- Management of the open to buy while maximizing product opportunities and overseeing adherence to company guidelines. Identify and exercise discretion to take calculated risks. Accountable for sales and margin performance.
- Oversee and perform on-going analysis and interpretation of key business issues. This includes learning and driving rack strategies by monitoring regional merchandise reports, managing speed of spending, anticipate shifts in market availability and controlling an Open-to-Buy through analysis.
- Learn from the best in the industry about our "off-price philosophy" and build a treasure hunt assortment, with the right balance of good, better, best customer in mind.
- Prioritize in-person shopping at Ross and the competition to identify opportunities and make recommendations with the customer in mind. Act upon findings to create actionable assortment decisions that maximize trends and opportunities.
- Develop long lasting trusted relationships that translate into business opportunities for Ross. This includes frequent in-person visits to showrooms, selecting product, and handling negotiations, either independently or in conjunction with their supervisor. Negotiate with the short and long term in mind with the vendor on purchases.
- Effectively negotiate packaway goods to offset additional costs of storing merchandise (e.g., additional dating, vendors holding merchandise etc.).
- Provide regular in-person training to motivate and develop their associates providing specific and balanced feedback.
- Display a sense of urgency in implementing solutions, managing time, and prioritizing work effectively to maximize time in the market.
- Manage, supervise, and oversee purchase order management and administration. This includes ensuring direct reports are: writing orders, changes, cancellations and necessary follow-up (both internally and externally) to ensure key shipments are delivered and processed.
- Show creativity in putting together a deal with the big picture / total rack in mind. Both recommend or take appropriate takes risks to drive the business.

- Analytical Mindset: Ability to extrapolate data to make sound business decisions with strong understanding and utilization of retail math and analysis.
- A bachelor's degree, 3+ years prior buying experience, including vendor negotiation experience. Closeout experience is a plus.
- Open to travel deemed necessary to support specific buying responsibility.
