Position Title: Summer Camp Specialty Teacher

Location: Brooklyn Waldorf School, 11 Jefferson Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11238 (on-site)

Status: Temporary, Non-Exempt

Reports To: Auxiliary Programs Coordinator

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays) – approximately 21 hours per week

Term: June 15 – July 31, 2026

Compensation: $40/hour

Position Summary

Brooklyn Waldorf School (BWS) seeks creative and enthusiastic Specialty Teachers to lead engaging, hands-on programs for our Grades Summer Camp (rising 2nd–6th Grade). Specialty sessions run for one week and culminate in a showcase or project that highlights each week’s learning and creativity.

We welcome educators, artists, and skilled professionals with unique areas of expertise. Past offerings have included gymnastics, doll making, printmaking, cooking, and other crafts and performance-based classes. An understanding of, or openness to, Waldorf education principles is highly valued.

Specialty Teachers collaborate closely with the Auxiliary Programs Coordinator, who oversees scheduling, logistics, and communication with families. Depending on enrollment, a Camp Counselor may assist in classes.

Key Responsibilities

• Commit to teaching one week between June 15 – July 31, 2026 (additional weeks negotiable).
• Design and lead a daily specialty program, serving as the lead instructor in your subject area.
• Create engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that build skills and culminate in a final project or performance.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and inspiring classroom environment.
• Communicate lesson plans and supply needs with the Auxiliary Programs Coordinator, adhering to the summer camp budget.
• Report any student concerns (behavioral, developmental, or logistical) promptly.
• Arrange for a substitute in the event of an absence.

• Week 1: June 15–18 (no camp June 19)
• Week 2: June 22–26
• Week 3: June 29–July 3
• Week 4: July 6–10
• Week 5: July 13–17
• Week 6: July 20–24
• Week 7: July 27–31

Qualifications

• Experience designing and leading educational or specialty programs for children.
• Proven expertise in your discipline or craft.
• Strong classroom management skills and ability to support diverse learners.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Experience working in a camp or school setting is preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues and engage families positively.
• Comfortable navigating a multi-floor school building (stairs/elevator).
• Interest in or openness to Waldorf education philosophy.
• Commitment to the mission and values of Brooklyn Waldorf School.
