Pastry Cook

Tall Poppy is a small bakery in Chelsea, serving up bloody good croissants and other delicious baked goods (and of course, coffee).

Our owners, Nina and Alexandra have embarked on a mission to reimagine tradition in a cute little space where the Chelsea community can find fresh, high quality pastries. We can promise you a supportive, fun, fast-paced environment that treats you as part of a family!

Our doors opened in September 2024 and we are ready to hire more talent for our small team. We are very passionate about what we do. Our ideal candidate is passionate, positive, and ready to learn. We rotate our menu, so a welcome mind to change is necessary. As we are a small team, we are all hands on deck in every aspect of the kitchen.

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Pastry Cook / Kitchen Porter to join our dynamic kitchen team. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our kitchen, ensuring that all dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment are properly cleaned and sanitized. In addition, you will assist with food preparation tasks and bakeoff of pastries. This position is essential to the smooth operation of our food service environment, supporting both front-of-house and back-of-house staff in delivering exceptional dining experiences.

Regular working hours will be Thursday 9am-5:30pm, Friday 8am-4:30pm, Saturday 8am-4:30pm, Sunday 8am-4:30pm & Monday 9am-5:30pm.

Responsibilities and Requirements include, but are not limited to:

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality products.
• Production of dough, baking croissants, making ganache and various fillings, as well as cookies and other small treats.
• Use of machinery such as a large mixer, sheeter, dough proofer and ovens.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen adhering to food safety and sanitation protocols
• Support the culinary team by keeping the kitchen organized and stocked with necessary supplies.
• Participate in regular cleaning tasks, including deep cleaning of kitchen equipment and storage areas.
• Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, pots, pans, and utensils using commercial dishwashing equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness of the dishwashing area and ensure all items are properly stored after cleaning.
• Responsible for taking trash and recycling out 2 days per week.
• Holding a current food protection certificate
• Dishes, cleaning, and garbage disposal.
• Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Weekend availability is needed, including willingness to do early morning shifts.
• Ability to stand for 8 hours at a time.
• Our kitchen ceilings are low, so height limit of 6 feet does apply.
