Reports to : Economic Empowerment Program Manager

The Korean-American Family Service Center, Inc. (KAFSC) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to assisting survivors of gender-based violence in the New York tri-state area. Our services include counseling, education, advocacy, and support, helping individuals to empower themselves and build safe, healthy relationships based on mutual respect and dignity. Annually,over 3,000 individuals benefit from our culturally sensitive, linguistically appropriate, and free.

Position Summary:

KAFSC is seeking a dedicated and experienced instructor for our Adult Programs to teach English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) as part of our Economic Empowerment Program. This position supports adult learners with limited English proficiency by equipping them with practical language skills applicable to real-life situations — including job readiness, everyday communication, and community engagement. The instructor will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging, interactive lessons with a focus on real-world workplace communication and skill-building.

Your key tasks will consist of, but not be limited to:

Lesson Planning and Instruction

  • Design and deliver engaging, student-centered English lessons tailored to adult English learners (ESOL), integrating real-life communication and workforce development skills.
  • Modify lesson plans and develop visual aids, interactive activities, and contextual learning materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and English proficiency levels.
  • Collaborate with the Economic Empowerment Program team to align lessons with participants’ career and personal development goals, ensuring instruction supports practical language use.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine instructional strategies and learning outcomes through student feedback and classroom observations.

Classroom Execution

  • Foster an inclusive and motivating learning environment that encourages active participation, confidence building, and peer learning.
  • Conduct and track pre- and post-assessments, attendance, and student progress toward educational functioning levels.
  • Incorporate interactive and communicative teaching methods, including pair work, role-playing, and real-world simulations.

Program Administration and Support

  • Maintain accurate and organized records of attendance, assessments, and participant achievements in accordance with program requirements.
  • Participate in planning and facilitating program-related workshops, community events, and graduation ceremonies that support learner engagement and retention.
  • Contribute to the development of extracurricular and enrichment opportunities, such as field trips, or guest speaker sessions, that extend learning beyond the classroom.
  • Provide regular updates to the Economic Empowerment team regarding student progress, class needs, and program evaluation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related or equivalent field preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching ESL or working with English language learners strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Personal integrity and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Understanding of New York City’s diversity and experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Fluency in Korean strongly preferred
  • Must be able to teach in-person

Compensation & Start Date

  • Salary : $40.00 per hour
  • Start Date: January 2026
  • Schedule: 8-16 hours/week, *days and exact hours to be determined based on semester schedule and/or student needs*
