Description:
AKAM is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Client Payroll Specialist to join its team in New York. This role is essential in ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of payroll operations for a large workforce while maintaining strict adherence to federal, state, and local labor regulations.
The Payroll Specialist will work extensively within ADP Workforce Now and collaborate closely with HR and Finance departments to manage payroll cycles, resolve discrepancies, and maintain precise employee records. The position requires strong analytical ability, accuracy under pressure, and a high level of professionalism when handling sensitive payroll and employee data.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing weekly payroll for approximately 500 employees, including union-based staff, while ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies. You will also support employee inquiries, audits, and payroll adjustments while maintaining a high standard of service and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Processing weekly and bi-weekly payroll for a large employee base with complete accuracy and timeliness
- Managing payroll operations for approximately 500 employees, including union workers (primarily 32BJ)
- Handling employee onboarding, terminations, pay changes, and voluntary deduction updates within payroll systems
- Calculating new hire pay, termination pay, bonuses, garnishments, and payroll adjustments as required
- Ensuring full compliance with federal, state, local tax laws and payroll regulations to avoid penalties or audit issues
- Maintaining accurate and updated employee payroll records within HRIS and payroll systems
- Conducting quarterly payroll audits to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions
- Responding to payroll-related inquiries within 24 hours to ensure employee satisfaction
- Educating employees and managers on payroll policies and procedures to reduce recurring issues
- Preparing detailed payroll reports, including deductions, employer contributions, and compliance documentation
- Managing 401(k) reporting and supporting audit and compliance requests
- Resolving payroll discrepancies and processing corrections in a timely and efficient manner
- Supporting payroll operations in the absence of the Payroll Manager
- Ensuring confidentiality and security of all payroll-related data at all times
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of high-volume payroll processing experience
- Strong knowledge of payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now or Workday
- Familiarity with union payroll processes (32BJ experience preferred)
- Experience in real estate or property management environments is a plus
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities across all organizational levels
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive financial information
