STARTING AT $44,762, PURSUANT TO THE RULES OF THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT
JOB SUMMARY:Secretary I is an administrative support position in an office and increases theeffectiveness of program staff by assisting in the coordination of the paper flow ofthe office and carrying out day-to-day administrative and program supportactivities required to accomplish the work of the organization. Secretaries aresupervised by an Office Manager or a Department Director and the nature andvariety of their activities depend on the program area in which they work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Organizes and coordinates the administrative activities in an officeincluding sorting and distributing mail, filing materials and records,maintaining and updating files, scheduling appointments and meetings,making travel arrangements and ordering and maintaining an inventory ofsupplies.2. Formats, keyboards, and proofreads correspondence, manuscripts, reportsand other material by operating a windows based environment. May usecomputer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar,and e-mail and database software in performing assignments.3. Greets visitors and answers telephone calls. Refers questions toappropriate individuals or personally provides information about CSEAprograms, benefits and services to CSEA members and CSEA LocalOfficers.4. Prepares responses to routine letters concerning program, policies andprocedures for own or supervisor's signature.5. Assists in the preparation of CSEA events such as ordering, packing, liftingand transporting event materials.6. Takes minutes for internal meetings.7. Performs other related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School diploma or equivalency and must possess grammar, spelling,proofreading and punctuation skills.Ability to type 35 words per minuteANDMust pass an office skill test administered by the Human Resources Department.ANDTwo years experience in an office clerical or secretarial environmentORA satisfactory equivalent combination of appropriate education and experience asdetermined by CSEA.Advancement to a Grade 8 upon completion of two years of satisfactoryperformance as a Grade 7 as determined by the supervisor.
