Chief Investment Officer (New York)
Chief Investment Officer Wealth Management
A large, globally respected and long-established financial institution is seeking a visionary Chief Investment Officer (CIO) to lead its Wealth Management investment discipline. This role will shape and implement the investment strategy for high-net-worth and institutional clients, while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory and compliance standards.
As a key executive leader, the CIO will collaborate closely with Asset Management to ensure the delivery of sophisticated investment solutions, represent the organization in thought leadership forums, and oversee the full spectrum of research, product development, and investment strategy. This role also manages the capital and expense budgets related to the Wealth Management investment function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction to portfolio managers and investment professionals across the Wealth Management division.
- Deliver comprehensive investment solutions tailored to ultra-high-net-worth individuals, single-family offices, and private investment offices.
- Collaborate across internal teams to drive efficiency, innovation, and alignment in investment delivery.
- Lead and influence within a matrixed organizational structure.
- Own the development and execution of investment policy, with a focus on portfolio design and implementation.
- Maintain and refine a framework for identifying product needs, assessing alternatives, and monitoring success metrics.
- Serve as an external representative through media engagement, conferences, and client-facing forums.
- Participate in select high-value client discussions and prospect presentations.
- Lead or contribute to key investment and tactical committees, balancing risk and return across the portfolio.
- Stay informed on emerging strategies, asset classes, and market developments through internal research and external networks.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Must have a minimum of 12+ years of experience in investing and portfolio management, accounting, investment, and financial strategies
- Deep expertise in portfolio management, investment theory, and financial principles.
- Proven leadership in high-level negotiations, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Familiarity with investment products, wealth structuring, and regulatory/tax frameworks.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, including the ability to mentor and build large high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated experience with public-facing communication, including media appearances and industry events.
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting required; advanced degree or designations (e.g., CFA, CMIA) strongly preferred.
- Advanced understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements for investment management.
