Work LocationIn-person; Remote; Hybrid Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Pact for the Future, adopted by Member States at the Summit of the Future in September 2024, is a wide-ranging intergovernmental agreement aimed at strengthening international cooperation and making the multilateral system more effective, inclusive and future-oriented. The Pact includes two annexes: the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations. To support implementation, the Secretary-General established a system-wide implementation architecture, including a Steering Committee, thematic Working Groups and the Team for Pact Implementation in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General. The Team for Pact Implementation supports coordination, strategic advice, tracking, outreach and communications related to the implementation of the Pact and its annexes. This internship is located in the Team for Pact Implementation, Executive Office of the Secretary-General. The intern reports to the Outreach and Communications Officer. The intern will support communications, outreach and digital content production related to the implementation of the Pact for the Future, including its annexes, the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations. The intern will contribute to the development of public-facing communications products that help explain implementation progress in a clear, accessible and visually engaging way. Tasks may include: • supporting video and multimedia production, including editing short clips from events and senior officials’ remarks, preparing LinkedIn video cuts, creating motion graphics or animations, producing quote cards and carousel drafts, and developing visual explainers on themes from and implementation of the Pact • supporting social media and LinkedIn production, including drafting LinkedIn posts, preparing posting packages around key moments, especially ahead of and during High-Level Week, and helping adapt event outcomes, reports and senior-level messages into accessible digital content • supporting newsletter production, including drafting first versions of newsletter sections, summarizing reports and events, and collecting relevant photos, captions and links • supporting data storytelling, including turning cleared and non-sensitive implementation data into clear charts, drafting plain-language explanations of progress, preparing visual summaries by chapter or theme, and creating infographics from approved figures • supporting research and monitoring, including monitoring references to the Pact in United Nations reports, senior officials’ statements and event pages, tracking engagements with Member States and partners, identifying upcoming communications opportunities, and maintaining a calendar of reports, relevant meetings and international days • supporting the preparation of PowerPoint presentations and other visual materials for senior officials and public-facing use • supporting the organization and maintenance of communications assets, including photos, captions, links, draft posts, cleared language and other materials • performing other related duties as required Qualifications/special skillsApplicants to the United Nations Internship Programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher such as Master's degree or equivalent, Ph.D. or post-graduate degree); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent). A field of study in communications, journalism, digital media, international relations, public policy, sustainable development, political science, data visualization or another relevant field is desirable. Knowledge of standard software applications, especially Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams is desirable. Knowledge in creating visual communications products, such as social media graphics, quote cards, carousels, infographics or presentations is desirable. Knowledge of video editing, motion graphics, animation or multimedia production is desirable. Ability to draft clear and concise public-facing communications products, including social media posts, newsletter items, event summaries or web/news articles, is desirable. Knowledge using design or multimedia tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Canva or similar platforms is desirable. Knowledge in using Microsoft PowerPoint and/or ThinkCell to prepare clear and visually engaging presentations is desirable. Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Flourish, Tableau, Infogram, Power BI, D3.js or similar platforms is desirable. Familiarity with content management systems, including Drupal, or basic HTML/CSS is desirable. Ability to conduct research and monitor policy developments, reports, statements, meetings or events related to the United Nations, multilateralism, sustainable development or global governance is desirable. Knowledge of the United Nations system, the Pact for the Future, the Global Digital Compact, the Declaration on Future Generations or related multilateral processes is desirable.
