Counter Staff
ALTBAU is a new bakery, cafe, and community space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, led by Chad Robertson, founder of Tartine Bakery, and slated to open in Fall 2026. We are seeking a friendly, energetic and reliable counter staff member to join our opening front of house team.
Responsibilities:
- Greet guests warmly and provide efficient, friendly service
- Take orders accurately and operate the point-of-sale system
- Process cash, credit card, and mobile payments responsibly
- Serve pastries, bread, and retail items, and provide knowledgeable recommendations
- Maintain a clean and organized counter and dining area, including bussing tables and restocking supplies
- Communicate clearly with the bakery and kitchen team to ensure smooth service
- Follow food safety and sanitation standards at all times
- Assist with opening, closing, and other daily operational tasks as needed
Qualifications:
- Prior customer service or restaurant experience preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable using a POS system and handling cash transactions
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to fifty pounds
- Flexible availability, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
