Deputy executive director

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Deputy Director to join our leadership team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the organization's mission through effective management and strategic planning. Serves as the Center’s deputy chief administrator responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization's operations, including strategic planning, program management, fundraising, financial management, and maintaining strong relationships with the board of directors, ensuring the organization effectively fulfills its mission and achieves its goals while adhering to legal and ethical standards. Reports to the Executive Director.
Status: Full Time, Exempt – Benefit Eligible Salary Range: $100,000-$110,000 annually depending on experience.
Qualifications:
1. Master's Degree required or equivalent relevant experience in human services, business, or non-profit management and 10+ years of management experience in the non-profit sector.
2. Deep understanding of non-profit operations, including fundraising strategies, financial management, and program development.
3. Experience in managing and budgeting for New York State and Federal grants.
4. Experience in grant writing and donor cultivation.
5. Strong leadership and management skills with a proven ability to motivate and inspire teams.
6. Ability to work with government and community leaders in a collaborative manner.
7. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills.
8. Passion for the organization's mission and commitment to social impact.
9. Experience in HIV/AIDS, Homelessness, and/or mental illness.
Responsibilities:
1. Communicate Damien Center priorities and vision to staff and members.
2. Keep abreast of changes in the HIV epidemic, homelessness, and mental health delivery systems.
3. Develop and guide the implementation of mission-based programs and services as per the Strategic Directions Plan.
4. Ensure the development and implementation of operational procedures in accordance with board policy, regulations, and legal guidelines.
5. Ensure that the organization and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong and positive image to relevant stakeholders.
6. Ensure that mechanisms are in place for regular evaluation and quality improvement of programs and management systems.
7. Ensure that all official records of the Center are retained and protected.
8. Ensure organizational-wide succession planning.
9. Fully engage in self-care to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Resource Development, Management and Communications:
- Develop and execute resource development strategies in conjunction with the executive director to enhance the Center’s sustainability and continued growth.
- Obtain and administer private and public grants in compliance with contract deliverables and stipulations.
- Oversee and participate in fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and fundraising events.
- Cultivate positive relations with funders and donors that are consistent with the mission and future of the organization.
- Ensure compliance and growth of the Albany Damien Center’s 340B Pharmacy Program
- Keep the board apprised of the organization’s fiscal health.
- Ensure compliance with fiscal policies and procedures.
- Assist in implementing public relations strategies that promote the organization's activities, programs, and goals.
Community Relations/Advocacy:
- Represent the organization publicly, promoting its mission and advocating for policy changes.
- Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
- Provide a voice for individuals with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses while serving on community planning bodies.
Personnel Management:
- Recruit, hire, and manage a strong leadership team and staff. Foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Ensure that all staff are treated in a manner consistent with the Center’s values, policies, and procedures.
Board of Directors:
- Assist in developing and sustaining a strong Board of Directors.
- Collaborate closely with the board of directors, providing regular updates on operations, and seeking guidance on key decisions.
- Inform the board of all relevant policy, operational, and community issues.
- Assist in developing strategic direction plans and adhering to annual goals and objectives for the organization, including recommending timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
- Attend all board meetings and attend or delegate to staff to attend committee meetings.
