Project Engineer
Project Engineer (Construction – Project Management / Estimating)
Are you looking to build a long-term career in construction project management or estimating? Schultz Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to support our team in delivering complex heavy civil projects from preconstruction through completion.
This position is focused on construction coordination, project tracking, and estimating support—ideal for candidates interested in advancing into a Project Manager or Construction Estimator role. This is not a design engineering role.

In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience in both project execution and preconstruction , working alongside experienced Project Managers and Estimators. This position is designed to develop you into either a Project Manager or Construction Estimator, depending on your strengths and interests.
Your Role as a Project Engineer
As a Project Engineer, you’ll play a key supporting role across both the field and office, helping ensure projects are planned, executed, and delivered successfully.
Project & Field Coordination
- Support Project Managers with day-to-day project execution
- Assist with scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and jobsite communication
- Attend project meetings and help track milestones, progress, and action items
Estimating & Preconstruction Support
- Assist in quantity takeoffs, bid preparation, and scope review
- Work with subcontractors and vendors to gather pricing and proposals
- Support the estimating team during bid and preconstruction phases
Document & Project Controls
- Manage project documentation, submittals, RFIs, and change orders
- Maintain organized project files and ensure timely communication across stakeholders
Communication & Reporting
- Serve as a key point of coordination between project teams, field staff, subcontractors, and clients
- Help keep projects on track through accurate reporting and follow-up
Safety & Compliance
- Review plans and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements
- Support a strong safety culture across all project activities

- Degree in Construction Management (preferred), Engineering Technology, or related field
- OR 1–3 years of experience in construction as a Project Engineer, Project Coordinator, or Assistant Project Manager
