Kitchen Manager – Non-Profit Soup Kitchen

Position Title: Kitchen Manager Location: Cortland Loaves and Fishes Inc. Job Type: Part-Time Reports To: Executive Director

Position Summary

Cortland Loaves & Fishes is seeking a compassionate, organized, and experienced Kitchen Manager to oversee the daily operations of our community soup kitchen. This role is responsible for meal planning, food preparation oversight, kitchen sanitation, volunteer coordination, inventory management, and ensuring a welcoming environment for guests in need.

The ideal candidate combines strong kitchen leadership skills with a commitment to serving the community and supporting the mission of a non-profit organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily kitchen operations and meal service
• Plan nutritious, cost-effective menus for large-volume meal preparation
• Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations
• Supervise kitchen staff and volunteers
• Coordinate food donations and manage inventory levels
• Order food and kitchen supplies within budget guidelines
• Maintain kitchen equipment and coordinate repairs as needed
• Train volunteers in safe food handling and kitchen procedures
• Ensure meals are prepared and served in a respectful, welcoming manner
• Maintain accurate records related to inventory, food temperatures, and sanitation
• Collaborate with leadership on special events, holiday meals, and community outreach efforts

Qualifications

• Previous experience in commercial kitchen management, food service, or institutional cooking
• Food safety certification (ServSafe or equivalent a plus)
• Experience supervising staff and volunteers
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Compassion for individuals experiencing food insecurity and hardship
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
• Experience working in a non-profit or community service environment is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $20.00/hr$
