Metallurgical Lab - Lead Engineer - Metallurgist

Responsible for performing sediment and or metallurgical analysis on materials used in products and manufacturing processes. Work involves expert knowledge of materials and substances as well as strong analytical skills. Exercises independent judgment with minimal guidance from supervisor. Provide Metallurgical / Sediment support. Skill sets required but not limited to be as follows:

· Performs Metallurgical Lab Tests.

· Prepares heat treated samples for testing.

· Performs metallurgical examination of “In Process” heat treat metallurgical properties.

· Communicate with Engineering staff and management.

· Collect and record findings in the customer's data base.

· Maintain all data as required by the customer.

· Operates metallurgical and/or sediment lab equipment to perform sample evaluations.

· Support solving manufacturability problems as they relate to metallurgical and or sediment matters

· Maintains technical control of production departments sediment and or metallurgical processes including setting up and writing control and process sheets

Salary based on experience. 

Qualifications

· Metallurgist, degree in metallurgy or at least 5 years’ experience, Bachelor of Science in Engineering

· Knowledge in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint – Intermediate level

· Knowledge with Lotus Notes or other email communication tool – Intermediate level

· Strong interpersonal skills involving ability to work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturally

· Strong written and oral communication skills necessary for meetings and presentations

· Ability to work well with others, exhibiting teamwork skills

· Partners with senior management to analyze and solve issues

· Ability to multitask by handling diverse assignments concurrently

· Strong mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback

· Expert knowledge of materials, substances, and their characteristics

· Relevant auto industry experience required – 6-9 years if no degree

· Areas of expertise include: Manufacturing, Assembly Process
