About Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Manhattan Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Manhattan, a partnership of Bard College and the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE), invites applications for a short-term, full-time position in Computer Science. BHSEC, a national model in the field of public-school reform, provides talented and highly motivated students the opportunity to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College as well as a high school diploma. The academic program emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment. To learn more about our program you can go to this web site: Job Description The Computer Science program at BHSEC Manhattan offers introductory courses for our high school and college students. The successful applicant will teach a project-based computer science course during our Summer Scholars Experience, a program that enables our rising 9th and 10th graders to take additional classes to acclimate themselves to our schools expectations, and form crucial bonds with each other and our faculty/staff. The role will require a commitment of working 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, from July 7th through July 31st. Please note that there are tentative 7:00 am - 7:30 pm schedules on Fridays, July 17th and 24th due to trips. Although the students will be BHSEC Manhattan pupils, the location of the program is TBD; It may be moved to BHSEC Queens, located at 30-20 Thomson Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101. Experience teaching students between the ages of 14 and 18, a commitment to scholarship, and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body are desirable. Interest in working with high school age students who are also completing a college-level course of study is needed. We are seeking candidates with a strong commitment to equity and social justice and desire to open up opportunities for underrepresented students.
