Instructional Graphic Designer

We are pursuing a talented graphic designer with practice creating custom graphics for a variety of mediums, including, but not limited to, animation, film, websites, and publications. An ideal candidate has practice working with project specifications and is proficient at selling their design decisions and strategies to clients, which may include faculty, subject matter experts, internal colleagues, and university partners. The candidate must use creative expertise in art and design to communicate a story, message, or idea and work to inform, persuade or entertain a client's intended audience, adjusting the mood and style of images accordingly.
this job offer is located out of the university’s home office in Albany, NY with the option of considering remote candidates. Remote employees will have mandatory occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and professional development opportunities. Remote employees are expected to be available during work hours 8:30am – 5:00pm Eastern time. The University will supply necessary equipment to execute the essential functions of this job (e.g., laptop, docking station). Employees are responsible for having a workspace where they can participate in virtual meetings without multiple interruptions and noise.

tasks and Responsibilities:

»Translate creative briefs, project specifications, and low-fidelity mockups into custom graphics, illustrations, and layout solutions.

»Work with creative teams to generate conceptual designs for various educational learning projects.

»Communicate design strategies and decisions with clients and stakeholders.

»Create visual representations that effectively communicate information and data to a target audience.

»Create custom 2D characters and background scenes for scenario-located simulations and other immersive learning practices.

»Create instructional graphics for presentations, interactive web activities, publications, animation, and video.

»Apply user practice best practices and principles to design thinking and process.

»Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, fine arts, communication arts, or equivalent preferred, or an associate degree with four years of practice in the creative field required.

»Must provide a portfolio of graphic design projects.

»Must have at least two years of practice using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.

»Must have practice translating creative briefs or project specifications into high-fidelity mockups or prototype designs.

»Works well under pressure and regularly prioritizes multiple assignments.
