Bilingual Nutrition Educator (PT/Per Diem), NYC

The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-quality implementation, scheduling, auditing, and maintaining effective communication with school administrators, staff, community partners, and the Common Threads team. As a Common Threads Nutrition Educator, you will be the face of the organization, leading hands-on cooking classes and providing nutrition education to K-12 students, parents, and teachers. Our programming, both for students and adults, focuses on basic nutrition lessons, featuring recipe demonstrations and tastings that highlight fresh, healthy ingredients while promoting healthy cooking and eating habits. Weekly hours will vary (0-12 hours, with up to 20 hours per week during our busy season).
Responsibilities:
- Teach children and adults cooking skills and nutrition in-person (and occasionally virtually); give participants the tools to make healthy choices using existing lesson plans from Common Threads
- Communicate with Common Threads supervisor and staff as well as with partner organization's staff and admin as needed
- Instructors will be trained on the curriculum, policies, procedures, and administrative responsibilities
- Instructors are required to follow the approved course curriculum, complete all grocery shopping and submit required documentation and receipts
- Able to travel across all 5 boroughs of NYC; travel costs are reimbursed within the 5 boroughs
- Administer pre-and post-surveys to students and families and manage paperwork, (if applicable)
- Occasionally travel to the Staten Island Office.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required. Experience or education in nutrition, dietetics, community and behavioral health, health education, public health, nursing (or related field) required
- Experience teaching or working with children and their caregivers is strongly preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish/English/Other) required. Must be fluent in Spanish and English and comfortable teaching in both languages as needed
- Possess positive, upbeat energy and a passion for wellness, food access, tolerance and awareness, and making a positive impact on society
- Strong time management and logical thinking skills; must be task-oriented
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skill set
- Strong skills in written & verbal communication, organization, and collaboration
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook, and Google Drive documents.
- Experience working with culturally diverse audiences

- Must hold current food service sanitation certifications or obtain within first 90 days of employment
Additional Information:
- Payment is on a per lesson basis and scheduled based on partner site availability. Hours fluctuate throughout the year and no minimum number of hours are guaranteed.
- Common Threads employees are subject to a background check prior to employment
- Common Threads requires proof of vaccination for in-person programming
- On the rare occasion that an instructor is required to teach virtually, the instructor should be comfortable teaching in a virtual setting and must possess adequate technology for teaching a class such as a laptop/computer/digital tablet, camera, headphones/mic, etc.
- Candidate must attend mandatory training or other virtual or in-person training, as required
- Position reports to the Senior Program Manager
Compensation & Benefits:
Compensation rates for in-person classes include:
- Small Bites: $75 per class (1 hour session)
- Parent Workshops: $75 (1 hour session)
- Program Events: $75 for the first 2 hours and then $20/additional hours (time varies each event)
- Cooking Skills & World Cuisine and Family Cooking Classes: $200 per class (2 hour session)
- $20/hour for administrative duties (i.e., training, attending meetings)
- The position is SNAP-ED grant-funded.
