Senior Accountant (Insurance Industry)

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a variety of accounting tasks related to insurance and reinsurance, ensuring accuracy, and adhering to strict reporting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage insurance and reinsurance accounting activities, including premiums, losses, deposit accounting, collateral, cash allocations, and recoveries.

• Prepare, validate, and distribute treaty bordereau accurately and timely.

• Prepare treaty settlements and manage collections.

• Validate, settle, and collect facultative premiums and claims.

• Apply cash in ceded applications and research open cash items.

• Research, reconcile, and respond to inquiries from brokers and internal clients.

• Confirm and reconcile monthly system-generated ceded balances to general ledger source reports.

• Handle quarter and year-end reporting.

• Provide support to internal audits and external GAAP auditors as required.

• Participate in special projects, including data analysis, reconciliations, external reporting, and process improvement projects.

• Review aging collection status of outstanding reinsurance recoverables and resolve payment delays.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance.

• 5+ years of financial experience in insurance, accounting, or financial services.

• Exceptional MS Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups.

• Proven time management skills and ability to work independently and as a team member.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• CPA or CPA eligible is a plus.

• Courses in ARe or CPCU are advantageous.

• Ability to take on tasks with increasing responsibility and perform independently.

• Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet deadlines.

Work Environment

This position requires working in a professional office environment with standard office equipment. The role involves collaboration with internal and external clients, and may require occasional overtime to meet reporting deadlines.

This is a Permanent position based out of New York, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $105000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
