Adjunct Lecturer - Game Design and Development (Continuous Posting)

Established in 1844 and designated a University Center of the State University of New York in 1962, the University at Albany's broad mission of excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research and public service engages a diverse student body of approximately 17,000 students in nine schools and colleges across three campuses. The College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC) is the first of its kind in the nation; uniting people, technology and knowledge to address the challenges of the 21st century. The Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship Complex (ETEC) is the $180M research, instructional and entrepreneurial complex in which CEHC resides, providing our faculty state of the art laboratory and teaching spaces. CEHC seeks adjunct lecturers for our new and growing Game Design & Development (GDD) program. The candidate will teach game design and development courses which may include but are not limited to game programming, game art, game technology, the business of games, game studies, UI/UX for games, and game design. The position offers an opportunity for a dynamic educator and practitioner to contribute to a rich interdisciplinary curriculum. Ideal candidates will bring a strong foundation in game design through their teaching or training program. Primary Responsibilities:- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in game design & development in one or more areas which may include but not limited to game programming, game art, game technology, the business of games, game studies, UI/UX for games, and game design.

- Knowledge of game design and development principles in one or more areas such as game programming, game art, game technology, UI/UX for games, game studies, or the business of games.
- Ability to design and deliver effective undergraduate and/or graduate instruction in game design and development across in-person, online, and hybrid modalities.
- Ability to integrate current professional practices, tools, or industry experience in game-related fields into academic coursework.
- Ability to communicate effectively and foster an inclusive learning environment that supports student success within a diverse academic community.

- A MA, MS, MFA in Game Design & Development, Information Science, English, Animation, Computer Science, Engineering or Networking, or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Three or more years of academic teaching or professional training experience.
- An ongoing professional practice which includes any of the following: game or play-related work, commercial or indie game development or game-related asset production / technical art.
- Demonstrated readiness to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in varying modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid).
- A terminal degree in Game design and development, Information Science, English, Animation, Computer Science, Engineering or Networking, or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Experience teaching graduate courses in game design & development such as game programming, game art, game technology, the business of games, game studies, and game design.
- Demonstrated experience or teaching in multiple modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid).
- One or more years working in the game design and development industry.
