Funds & Asset Management Tax Associate Attorney

Location: New York

Direct Counsel is seeking a Funds & Asset Management Tax Associate to join a prestigious Am Law 100 firm in New York . This position offers the opportunity to advise leading investment firms and financial institutions on complex tax matters related to fund formation, asset management, and investment structuring across various asset classes.

• Provide tax structuring and advisory services for private credit, real estate, infrastructure, and private equity funds .

• Advise on fund formation, structuring, and investor tax considerations , including U.S. and international tax implications.

• Counsel clients on asset manager compensation structures , carried interest, and partnership tax matters.

• Address tax compliance and reporting obligations related to fund operations.

• Analyze and advise on Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and other investment structures (experience in this area is helpful but not required).

• Collaborate with investment teams, fund managers, and financial institutions to develop tax-efficient strategies.

• Education: J.D. from a top-tier law school.

• Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience in tax law with a focus on funds, asset management, and investment structuring .

• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of partnership taxation, fund structuring, and tax issues affecting private funds .

• Skills: Excellent academic credentials, legal research and writing skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and internal teams.

• Salary Range: $260,000 – $390,000 (compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and firm policies).
