Associate Legal Specialist - Commercial Banking

The Role and the Team

A great opportunity exists for a detail-oriented, confident professional to join the Corporate Banking legal team at Capital One. This role supports commercial lending transactions as a Legal Specialist Associate. The Corporate Bank legal team is a dynamic group of legal professionals who provide advice and counsel to successful business teams that extend commercial loans to middle market, US corporate, sponsor-backed and regional banking borrowers. The Legal Specialist Associate role will involve interacting with internal business associates, internal and external legal counsel and enterprise partner groups.

The Legal Specialist Associate will be responsible for the following:

  • Drafting and reviewing short form transaction-related documents

  • Monitoring shared inbox and maintaining an accurate log of current transactions, status and review metrics

  • Providing deal support throughout lifespan of a transaction, including reviewing NDAs, coordinating collateral and perfection processes and storage of physical collateral and loan documents

  • Managing library of form documents

  • Managing annual renewals of signatory authority delegations and other internal governance processes

  • Assisting attorneys with knowledge management, including gathering quarterly reports and other presentations and coordinating legal trainings

  • Working with internal counsel and business clients to improve business practices and procedures

  • Other tasks as needed by the legal department or business

An ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic professional with paralegal experience at a law firm or in-house legal department, preferably within finance, real estate or transactional practice areas.

Specific candidate competencies include, but are not limited to:

  • Strong organizational skills with impeccable attention to detail

  • Ability to prioritize and manage simultaneous workstreams and projects

  • Ability and willingness to work as a team player to manage efficient processes, resolve issues across organizational boundaries, and build collegial and effective relationships with business leaders, attorneys, paralegals, project managers and administrative assistants at all levels of the company

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills, with proven ability to influence

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification

  • At least 2 years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department

  • At least 1 year of experience in process management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or military experience

  • Project management certification

  • 1+ years of experience in a finance, real estate or other transactional practice area

  • Paralegal certification

This role is hybrid, meaning associates spend 3 days per week in-person at one of our offices listed on this job posting. Fridays are enterprise- wide virtual work days. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are options for in-person days for associates to spend time together working in our beautifully-designed team areas.

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

New York, NY: $87,400 - $99,700 for Legal Specialist Associate

McLean, VA: $80,100 - $91,400 for Legal Specialist Associate

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
