• Machine Operation: Under supervision, operate CNC Milling and Turning centers specifically calibrated for plastics.

• Material Handling: Learn the unique properties of plastics (e.g., thermal expansion, grain direction) which differ significantly from metal machining.

• Quality Inspection: Use precision tools like micrometers, calipers, and optical comparators to verify parts against engineering blueprints.

• Secondary Operations: Master specialized techniques such as vapor polishing, annealing, and deburring to finish high-end plastic parts.

• Maintenance: Perform daily machine including managing plastic chip removal and coolant levels.

Responsibilities

As an apprentice, your primary goal is to support Journey-level Machinists while mastering the trade. You will transition from manual tasks to high-tech computer-controlled operations.

• Setup & Operation: Assist in setting up manual lathes, mills, and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines.

• Blueprint Reading: Learn to interpret technical drawings and schematics to determine dimensions and tolerances.

• Precision Measurement: Use specialized tools like micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to ensure parts are accurate to within a thousandth of an inch.

• Maintenance: Perform "PMs" (Preventative Maintenance) on machines, such as checking coolant levels and lubricating moving parts.

• Deburring & Finishing: Clean and smooth the edges of machined parts to meet quality standards.
