BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTION SPECIALIST DISTRICT AGENCY CLASSROOMS Intensive Needs Program

QUALIFICATIONS: Certification: Special Education, Social Work, Psychologist, or other related mental health field. ABA Therapy certification or Board-Certified Behavior Analyst given preference. It is required that candidates attach a PDF, or a screen shot of their certifications . Must have at least 4 years of experience in their certified area. Attendance teacher certification paired with the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst will also be an accepted certification. Strong working knowledge of behavioral theory and applied behavior analysis. Understand the characteristics and behaviors associated with disorders. Ability to apply behavioral principles and to handle intense emotional situations. Good communication skills both verbal and written. Knowledge and experience with implementing MTSS/PBIS model and systems. Experience with de-escalation techniques, trauma informed care, and restorative justice/circles. Must have the ability to perform the physical duties associated with this position. LOCATION: School #27 JOB SUMMARY: Position requires the planning, organization, and implementation of the appropriate program to address the social, emotional and behavioral learning needs of the students; to guide and encourage students to develop and fulfill their potential in both curricular and extracurricular activities.

These Intensive Needs positions require specialized skills and training. As such, the salary schedule for Intensive Needs positions shall be four hundred dollars ($400) above the regular salary schedule.

Appointed Behavior Specialist to the Intensive Needs program will remain in place for a minimum of three (3) years.

Appointed staff will be required to participate in training in July and/or August at the contractual rate of pay. DUTIES:

The Behavioral Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Serve as the Behavioral Specialist for the district's agency classrooms.

  • Recommend appropriate behavioral interventions including implementation of skills/strategies/supports supported through a district appointed crisis management program.

  • Provide job embedded coaching and modeling for teachers/staff on implementing behavioral supports.

  • Collect, analyze and progress monitor behavioral data.

  • Develop a system of tracking outcomes to illustrate the impact of interventions.

  • Interface with district staff and parents to address behavior.

  • Collaborate, plan and partner with staff assigned to the district agency setting.

  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

  • Prepare class activities as related to behavioral support.

  • Facilitate the development of a Behavioral Intervention Plan and hold related BIP team meetings.

  • Provide professional development on behavioral interventions and support

  • Respond to students requiring de-escalation and crisis management.

  • Interact with students in therapeutic, respectful and trauma sensitive ways

  • Support IEP development.

  • Support district MTSS, restorative and trauma informed initiatives.

  • Communicate with parents, families and caregivers.

  • Complete all related paperwork.

  • All other duties as necessary and appropriate.
