Accounts Payable Specialist

This phenomenal, mission-driven nonprofit organization in Buffalo, NY is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to support the Finance Team. This full-time Accounts Payable Specialist is an in-person role, offering $20-24/hr, depending on experience, and 35-hour workweeks. This Accounts Payable role is a great opportunity for someone with 2+ years of accounting experience who is looking to grow in a stable, purpose-driven environment with a great work environment and very low turnover.
The Accounts Payable Specialist will support multiple entities, reviewing transactions processed through modern accounting systems, ensuring accuracy, and helping maintain clean financial records. You’ll also assist with accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general accounting support. This is not a repetitive AP data entry role, but Accounts Payable review over multiple entities.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, structured, and comfortable working in a digital environment. This is a team that values independence - you’ll be trusted to manage your responsibilities without micromanagement, while contributing to a collaborative and supportive workplace.

Responsibilities
- Process and review Accounts Payable across 20+ entities
- Verify accuracy of invoices and transactions within accounting systems
- Perform account reconciliations and support General Ledger accuracy
- Review credit card activity and financial transactions
- Assist with Accounts Receivable, Reconciliations, and General Accounting
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation
- Assist with month-end close support and reporting tasks
- Identify discrepancies and ensure financial data integrity
- Collaborate with the Controller and accounting team on daily operations
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field OR 2+ years of accounting experience
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Experience with accounts payable and general accounting tasks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Comfortable working in digital accounting systems and modern workflows
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
Compensation & Benefits
- $20–$24/hour, Non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay)
- 35-hour standard workweek, equivalent to $36,000–$44,000 annually

Schedule & Location
