Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager 1, SG-18, or their designee, the incumbent will perform semi-skilled and unskilled park maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, the following: - Conduct inspections and maintenance in park buildings and throughout the grounds, including over 36 miles of trail on and near the Erie Canal.- Clean bathrooms; load and unload vehicles. - Operate and perform basic maintenance of equipment including self-propelled tools, power-driven tools, and vehicles.- Perform upkeep and repair of park roads and paths, landscaping, gardening and mowing. - Perform proper tree care using a chainsaw including pruning and removal of trees.- Perform semi-skilled tasks such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, and painting. - Supervise and train seasonal staff; assist with reviewing and evaluating employees. - Coordinate with staff during events and in emergency situations.- Assist in snow and ice removal which will include shoveling and the operation of snow removal equipment.

Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:- Law enforcement or security- Firefighting- Emergency Medical Services - Environmental education or stewardship- Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)- Historic preservation or interpretation- Landscaping or grounds maintenance OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.- Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete OPRHP sawyer training.
