Host
A restaurant host is the first point of contact for guests, responsible for creating a welcoming first impression. Their primary duties include greeting arrivals, managing reservations, maintaining accurate waitlists, and strategically seating diners to balance workloads among the waitstaff.
Core Responsibilities
- Guest Services: Warmly welcome guests, provide accurate wait time estimates, and escort customers to their assigned tables.
- Reservation & Table Management: Manage seating charts, track table turnover, and handle reservations over the phone or through digital booking platforms.
- Communication: Answer incoming calls, handle customer inquiries (e.g., menu questions, dietary accommodations), and notify guests when tables are ready.
- Front-of-House Maintenance: Maintain the cleanliness of the host station, entryway, and waiting areas.
- Team Support: Assist waitstaff and management during peak rushes, which may include bussing tables or running food.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Customer Service: A warm, energetic, and professional demeanor under pressure.
- Organization & Multitasking: Ability to manage a crowded lobby, answer phones, and track multiple tables simultaneously.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and sometimes lift/move up to 25 pounds.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with modern Point of Sale (POS) and digital reservation systems is highly preferred.
