This position is in a civil service competitive class that is subject to examination. Description:




Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Member Communications leadership team, the Pension System Representative performs technical and customer service work in the field of retirement benefits. Performs related work.


Reports to: Call Center Supervisor, Member Communications Deputy Director, Member Communications Director


Direct Reports: N/A


Key Relationships : The Pension System Communications Representative works closely with staff throughout BERS, as well as prospective members, active members of the retirement system, and various departmental supervisors.


Responsibilities


  • Utilizes computer databases and BERS information technology to conduct research and access information impacting upon members of the retirement system.
  • Reviews member records, when necessary, to ensure that summaries of accounting, reconciliation, calculation, and pension payroll data are accurate
  • Records member information, inquiry, and resolution into tracking system
  • Answers telephone, email, and message/chat inquiries and determines service required.
  • Keeps members apprised of status and progress on unresolved service requests.
  • Prepares written replies using forms, form letters, and emails/messages.
  • Responds to more complex and technical inquiries which have been forwarded.
  • Forwards very complex, technical, and unusual issues to specialists for response.
  • Performs related clerical administrative tasks and computer support work.

Qualification Requirements:


Minimum


  • An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and either:

a) two years of satisfactory full-time experience performing analytical,

administrative or customer service tasks; or

b) one year of satisfactory full-time experience performing mathematical,

statistical, actuarial, or accounting computations in one or more of the

following:

i) a retirement or employee benefits plan; and/or

ii) for customer service in a financial institution; and/or

iii) in a position requiring the application of law, rules, and regulations and

the use of statistical, actuarial, or similar tables; or

  • An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting, economics, finance, data analytics, project management, business administration, public administration and/or actuarial science; or

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory full-time experience performing mathematical, statistical, actuarial, or accounting computations in one or more of the following: b) a retirement or employee benefits plan; and/or c) for customer service in a financial institution; and/or d) in a position requiring the application of law, rules, and regulations and the use of statistical, actuarial, or similar tables; or

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and three years of satisfactory full-time experience performing analytical, administrative or customer service tasks; or

  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1", “2’, "3" or “4” above. College education may be substituted for the experience described in "3" or “4” above on the basis that 30 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted six months of required experience. However, all candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and either 9 semester credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting, economics, finance, data analytics, project management, business administration, public administration and/or actuarial science from an accredited college or one year of experience as described in “1” above.

Preferred


  • Experience with CHRMS, EIS, PMS, PPMS
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience providing excellent customer service in a high-volume environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Bilingual; Fluency in Spanish

Salary : $58,159 - $64,891


(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
