About City Roots Community Land Trust:
Established in 2016, City Roots Community Land Trust is a community-driven organization that works to establish and promote permanently affordable housing and community facilities in Rochester, NY. We are a collaborative of homeowners, renters, youth, community allies, and partners. City Roots’ mission is to permanently preserve affordability through community-owned and managed land, to empower neighbors, and to bridge socioeconomic divisions in order to secure development without displacement.
After a period of significant transition, which included addressing distressed properties and undergoing a strategic planning process, City Roots CLT is ready for the next phase and is ready to hire a new staff member to help lead this important work.
Position Description:
The position reports to the Board. They will work especially closely with the Board President and Board Treasurer.
- Community Organizing. Cultivate an active, empowered base of members who meaningfully contribute to advancing the mission of City Roots CLT.
- Stewardship. Cultivate long-term relationships with Lessee Members and support the development of the Lessee Community.
- Administration. Support the day-to-day operations of the organization.
Job Pay and Benefits
- Salary: $55,000 - $65,000
- 35 Hours/week FTE

Qualifications Preferred:
- 7+ years of work experience
- Strong program or project management experience
- Financial Literacy and Budgeting Experience
- Grant application and tracking experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software or Google Docs Suite

Description & Responsibilities:
Community Organizing:
The core of this work is cultivating an active, empowered base of members and creating opportunities for them to meaningfully contribute to the mission of City Roots CLT.
Specific duties include:
- Coordinating outreach efforts within the City of Rochester to identify and recruit new members to City Roots CLT, including.
- Develop and continuously improve print and digital media focused on education and recruitment of members.
- Maintain a database of members
- Coordinating and continuously improving a series of educational trainings and leadership development opportunities for CLT members
- Building and maintaining relationships with and among City Roots membership through one-on-ones, small group gatherings, and larger community events.
- Integrating members into the work of City Roots CLT through committees, volunteer days, organizational planning efforts, and our democratic board elections process.
- Manage City Roots communications, including a monthly newsletter and social media accounts.
Stewardship:
The core of this work is in cultivating a long-term relationship with Lessee Members in CLT homes and being responsive to their needs and any problems they may be encountering with regard to their homeownership / rental experience.
Specific duties include:
- Supporting overall CRCLT communications with residents, including fielding, documenting & triaging homeowners’ issues/problems.
- Manage the marketing, outreach, and educational efforts of City Roots.
- Recruit and manage volunteers.
Administration:
The core of this work is in cultivating a long-term relationship with Lessee Members in CLT homes and being responsive to their needs and any problems they may be encountering with regard to their homeownership / rental experience.
- Lead the annual budget development process, monitor expenditures and variances, and proactively update income and expense projections;
- Manage annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with audit firm;
- Oversee tax preparation and filing;
- Work with the Accountant to ensure timely and accurate bookkeeping, bank deposits, receivables, and payables;
- Negotiate, prepare, and monitor all vendor and consultant contracts;
- Support fundraising efforts. Oversee grant and donor receivables and coordinate.
- Ensure all fiscal policies, procedures, and documentation requirements are adequate to protect the organization.
- Maintain updated personnel and operations policies and procedures and ensure compliance;
- Develop and oversee document retention policies and manage disposal of records;
- Develop and oversee risk assessment and emergency planning policies and procedures;
- Oversee organizational insurance policies and ensure the organization is adequately covered.
- Oversee compliance with state and federal registration and reporting obligations, including state charity registrations.
